Percutaneous Endoscopic Lumbar Discectomy (PELD)

PELD also known as Percutaneous Transforaminal Endoscopic Discectomy (PTED) is a micro invasive procedure through a skin incision of only 6-7 mm done on a day care basis for the herniated disc. It is going to be the “GOLD STANDARD” in spine surgery with lot many advantages over the traditional surgery including the so called microdiscectomy. The major advantages are:

  • Day care procedure under vision
  • Done under local anesthesia
  • No cutting of bone, so no loss of natural architecture of spine
  • Least risk of post operative complications as the nervous system is not touched
  • Patient can go to washroom immediately after surgery, no prolonged rest required
