These procedures are highly effective in relieving the intractable pain associated with certain conditions, e.g., Trigeminal neuralgias, chronic pancreatitis, upper & lower gastrointestinal malignancies, vascular spastic conditions and many neuropathies. These interventions work by increasing the blood flow and breaking the sympathetic limb of the afferent sensory system. Here again, both conventional and pulsed radiofrequency are used most commonly besides alcohol, phenol, glycerol, steroids and cryo. Commonly performed procedures are Gasserian ganglion block, splanchnic nerves block, celiac plexus block, Hypogastric plexus block, Lumbar ganglion block and Sphenopalatine block.
